About  Workshop:

This is a workshop series that taps into some of the cerebral aspects of dance and movement. This is centered around building the ability to tell powerful stories through motivated movement. A combination of theory and practice where I will be working on concepts like Motivation, Presence, projection, empathy , gestures, personalisation and honesty in movement. This workshop focuses on shedding light on some of the often overlooked layers of dance through research, analysis, experimentation, exploration and practice.

About Facilitator:

Arudhra, 31, has been dancing since she was 4 years old. She started off as a Classical Indian dancer who sought formal training for 13 years in Bharatanatyam. She started training in Lyrical Jazz in her early twenties but soon found her sense of belonging in the fluidity and independence of Contemporary.

Arudhra recently completed her PhD in Cultural studies at the National University of Singapore where she studied the Anthropology of Dance therapy because she strongly believes that dance is not only glamourous and entertaining but is a beautiful language of communication. She is a former lecturer of dance at the Lasalle College of the Arts, Singapore and Nanyang Academy of Fine arts (NAFA) where she taught both dance theory as well as practice at the School of Dance and Theatre.

Arudhra has taught various workshops and Intensive programmes in various cities including Bandung, Jakarta, Singapore, Delhi, Chennai and Mumbai. She is a former company dancer of The Danceworx, India founded by Mr. Ashley Lobo and The Royal Dance Off Company, Singapore founded by Mr. Ryan Tan. She is a scholarship recipient to the International Student Visa Programme, Broadway Dance Centre, New York. She was a founding faculty member of the Millenium Dance Complex, Singapore until May 2018. She was recently selected to work closely with Jillian Meyers on a week long movement intensive held in Tokyo.  She also released her first dance short film The Journey that involved 90 dancers and was chosen to be part of Singapore’s Got To Move yearly highlights. She is currently a freelance independent artist who teaches various workshops and guest faculty classes in a number of schools as well as studios in India
