Role Overview

As Shoonya evolves as a space for artistic exploration and meaningful exchange between artists, practitioners and communities, the Design and outreach associate will play a vital role in building these connections. The role will focus on developing relationships with communities, creating pathways for participation, and using social media and other forms of outreach to deepen engagement and bring new audiences into the life of the space. 

The ideal candidate is passionate about the arts, adept at leveraging social media trends, possesses strong interpersonal skills, and has a proven track record of driving results through strategic content creation and genuine community engagement.

Primary Responsibilities

1. Social Media & Marketing Strategy

  • Strategy & Execution: Develop and implement a comprehensive social media strategy aligned with Shoonya’s evolving goals, objectives, and community centric ethos.
  • Content Creation: Produce engaging, visually compelling content including reels, promotional images, videos, and written posts that showcases Shoonya’s events, artists, and initiatives.
  • Campaign Management: Plan and execute digital campaigns to promote upcoming events, exhibitions, workshops, and fundraising initiatives.
  • Curation & Collaboration: Curate content and collaborate directly with artists to promote their work effectively. Coordinate with internal teams to ensure seamless integration with broader marketing efforts.

2. Community Engagement & Communication

  • Community Building: Foster a vibrant, inclusive, and interactive community across all online platforms and communication channels.
  • Relationship Management: Cultivate meaningful relationships with followers, offline audiences, subscribers, partners, and influencers via social media, emails, and WhatsApp to amplify reach and impact.
  • Responsiveness: Manage internal communications and respond to public comments, messages, and inquiries in a timely, professional, and welcoming manner.

3. Design & Platform Management

  • Visual Design: Design digital and print collateral, including social media posts, event posters, monthly calendars, website updates, and fundraising documents.
  • Channel Management: Create, manage, and maintain Shoonya’s presence across key platforms including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, the Shoonya website, BookMyShow, and District.
  • Direct Communication: Oversee direct communication channels such as WhatsApp groups, broadcast lists, and Shoonya newsletters. Stay informed on platform updates and algorithmic trends to optimize performance.

4. Analytics & Reporting

  • Performance Tracking: Monitor, analyze, and report on social media performance metrics using tools such as Google Analytics, Facebook Insights, and native platform analytics.
  • Strategy Optimization: Utilize data driven insights to continually refine marketing tactics and improve engagement strategies.

5. Curating Experience, Networks & Collaboration

  • Visitor Experience: Ensure a welcoming and inclusive environment for all stakeholders, adeptly handling inquiries, feedback, and complaints from the public.
  • Partnerships & Fundraising: Establish strategic partnerships with local businesses, educational institutions, and cultural organizations. Network with potential sponsors and donors to secure funding and resources.
  • Programming Alignment: Work closely with the programming team to ensure social media efforts accurately reflect and support a diverse and dynamic lineup of events.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Proven experience in social media management, digital marketing, and community building
  • Proven ability to create audio visual content for social media like (but not limited to) reels and youtube shorts  
  • Proficiency in graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) for creating posters, calendars, and digital collateral.
  • Strong understanding of analytics tools and how to translate data into actionable strategies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an aptitude for community-focused relationship building.
  • A deep appreciation for the arts and an alignment with Shoonya’s core values of accessibility, authentic expression, and shared participation.
