ABOUT THE PRODUCTION:
=============================
This show is produced by efforts of the She Stands Tall Project team and directed by the founder, Rekha Kurup. It celebrates the 2nd anniversary of She Stands Tall Project’s work in India, and the 20th Anniversary of The Vagina Monologues & V-Day.

ABOUT ‘THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES’
=============================
It’s been almost 20 years since V-Day was founded, since Eve Ensler’s play The Vagina Monologues shattered taboos, sharing the stories of women as they had never been told before.

These monologues were based on real life interviews of over 200 women from across the world on the topic of their vagina. Each monologue deals with an aspect of the feminine experience, touching on matters such as sex, sex work, body image, love, rape, menstruation, female genital mutilation, masturbation, birth, orgasm, the various common names for the vagina or simply as a physical aspect of the body. A recurring theme throughout the piece is the vagina as a tool of female empowerment, and the ultimate embodiment of individuality.

You will hear DEEPLY VULNERABLY AND INTIMATE SHARINGS FROM WOMEN who range from regular homemakers to older women to transgender women to sex workers to homeless women to Rape victims of Bosnia war to college students to young girls.

WHAT IS SPECIAL ABOUT THIS PRODUCTION
===================================
During the month of February, organisations, activists, colleges and communities around the world are invited to stage benefit productions of The Vagina Monologues – to raise funds and awareness for local anti-violence groups, including rape crisis centres, domestic-violence shelters, and more. There are only TWO Productions of Vagina Monologues happening in the entire subcontinent of India in the month of February and both are happening here, in Bangalore.

This PARTICULAR STAGING of The Vagina Monologue is put forth by a local social enterprise, She Stands Tall Project, whose mission is to create safe, sacred, open spaces that support women to own and live their embodied POWER in the world, and in doing so become catalysts of transformative change within their own lives, their families, communities and the world. The cast of this production of Vagina Monologues does not include PERFOMRING ARTISTS but 13 regular women who live in Bangalore – mothers, daughters, sisters, lovers, leaders, entrepreneurs, and more.

The SPECIAL SPOTLIGHT of this Vagina Monologue show will be the showcasing of Tony Stroebel’s 2 min short film ‘Man Prayer’, followed by real Bangalorean men standing up and reclaiming their expressions of masculinity outside the limited definitions of modern-day patriarchy.
