Sister Outsider

Two clowns playing on the theme of nonsense, sabotaging structured choreographic patterns – Sister Outsider is a dance-theatre piece that deals with the embodiment of culture and history and what it does to women’s bodies.

In the words of Ludivine, one of the performers of the piece, “It deals with insurrection and feminism through transgenderism”.

Sister Outsider is not only timely but also necessary, we feel. It presents another perspective to the discourse around feminism and sexism in the country – inspiring us to look at these subjects in a different, more sensitive, and poetically nuanced way.

It depicts the complicated equations of power between two people – one belonging to a First World country, the other a Third World. Taking into account the multiplicity of oppressions (class privilege, gender, sexuality) that build sexism, the piece reflects a dialectical relationship where two characters try to understand how to recognize each other’s existence without reproducing the oppression they undergo every day.

Will they be successful ?
