Workshop

10AM - 6PM

Have four years and a pile of money for a fancy degree undergrad degree in stage lighting? No? Then, here’s a workshop that will sort you out to get working in the field right away. Reading light is the culmination of nearly 20 years of field experience in lighting for dance and theatre. Come to get the inside scoop on all the tips, tricks and exposure to give you a boost in your current or upcoming work/career as a lighting designer.

This workshop takes three days to bring you upto speed about the lights we normally work with. You’ll have it in the room to figure out exactly how it works. These will be quick modules about:

Design theory
Terminology
Facilities
Gear
Positions
Working in the field
and much more

You’ll work with an actor and a dancer and design for them using everything you learn.

On the fourth day, you’ll learn how to document you designs like a professional and have it ready to be sent across the world, if needed, and have it understood.

We then take a break till the following weekend. In that time, you get to work on your designs offline, talk to your performers or each other, if needed.

Then comes the presentation. You get three hours each with a minimum of 12 lights to realise your design. You’ll work with technicians, you’ll make decisions and you’ll have a video to share about how you did it.

Post workshop, you’ll have access to who to call for what kind of equipment as well as way to ask and clear any questions you may have about lighting.
