The masterclass with John Britton is an introduction, or refresher, to the principles of physical theatre. It will also allow you to dip your toes into Self-with-Others, the practice at the heart of John’s work over the past twenty years.

The masterclass offers a chance to understand

► Improvisations techniques and tools

► Cultivate presence and discipline in the body

► Psychophysical understanding of movement

► Communicating intentions through the body

John’s approach to training individuals within ensemble (Self-with-Others) is the foundation on which DUENDE’s work is built. This is a psychophysical approach that encourages bringing the mind and body into every action. It is based on a set of clear, interconnected principles, the most important being the need for performers to find deep pleasure in their work. If you are not enjoying your work, you are not doing it properly.

All performance is physical – the audience sees exactly what you do! John’s approach to performance, ‘Self-with-Others is a psychophysical approach which encourages the bringing together of mind and body into every action, the unifying of thought and action. It is based on a set of clear principles – the most important of which is the need for performers to find deep pleasure in their work. If you are not enjoying your work, you are not doing it properly.
