The series continues this week.
Raam will continue the explorations in the Meippayat series. He will revisit the basics as well.
All are welcome, even if you have not attended the prior classes.

In the Meippayat series – 01, each session is going to focus mainly on 2 body sequences termed as Meippayat. These sequences are codified routines which consists of all postures in Kalaripayyatu and certain swings and jumps connected to it.

We will be mainly focusing on Pakarcha Kaal sequence and Thanjam payat.

No age restrictions. But participants should have some experience in movement practices.

|| About the Artist
Raam Kumar is a Kalarippayat artist and contemporary dancer from Kerala. He follows the lineage of his great grandfather, Veera Sree C.V. Narayanan Nair and his grandfather, Sri C.V. Govindan Kutty Nair. He studied Kalarippayat for over 22 years under the CVN Kalari tradition and worked as faculty at CVN Kalari and has also taught at the Diploma program at Attakkalari for 3 years. He worked with Attakkalari in their main company as a contemporary dancer and has been a part of many of their productions in the past years. He has helped choreograph the stunt sequences for several Malayalam films and has trained actors in their physicality for films. He has also worked on Jackie Chan’s movie “The Myth”. He has worked with Asia Cultural Council, NY to create awareness of the arts and has performed in Myanmar, Netherlands and Barcelona in past years. Raam is an extraordinary mover with expertise in teaching and working in the Contemporary arts field.
