The first public performance of the Big Fat Company (BFC) uses the well-known Kannada play Hayavadana by Girish Karnad as a springboard to raise questions about aesthetic choices, cultural narrative around the body and actors’ relationship to character. The choice of Hayavadana seems right because it deals with central issues of mind/body/identity that we are deeply engaged with & because of its professional & personal significance for the cast & crew of BFC who are rooted in Kannada theatre. Head 2 Head, by BFC is a production that uses the iconic play to ask social, cultural & political questions that come from the very personal experience of being a plus size actor in today’s world.
