India has been known for its magnificent rivers coursing through its vast land, from their genesis in the pristine hills to the low-lying plains with our cities built around them and finally joining the oceans.

What has now become of these once glorious rivers that are in many ways tied to India’s ethos and identity?

These rivers have played a key part in shaping India’s history and culture and have inspired myths, poetry and literature for centuries now. Right from Kabir’s dohas by the Ganga to the the powerful drama Ponniyin Selvan that unfolds on the banks of the Cauvery, these rivers have seen it all. A lifeline for millions; their banks are home to rich biodiversity, their water is sustenance for innumerable animal and bird species and the rivers themselves are crucial for agriculture, fishing, navigation and tourism.

Our rivers are dying. Let’s explore problems and solutions through film and discussion on the 16th of November.
