About the One Thousand and One Nights II
“One Thousand and One Nights” Asians themselves connect the famous Asian tales known as the “ Arabian Nights” to the present. Female performers from each area appear as Scheherazade one after another to tell several episodes from the tales about thieves, magic, the Genie, love affair, treasure and wisdom. They create “One Thousand and One Nights” (Modern version) by adding folk tale and today’s happenings in her country. Especially we focus on the world from a woman’s eye in this tour. “Who is a tyrant?” The voice of women turns to narration, song and dance from her area. They appeal to “Asia now” dressed in “ancient Asia”. It is a night of festivity which memory and the present, various images and messages appear frenziedly.
About Aruku II
“Aruku / Walking” “Walking”, the fundamental act of human beings continues eternally. Performers just repeat “backward and forward”, developing orderly or chaotically with the purpose of changing “Here and Now” to “That time and That place”. Eternal time in the ancient and the Asian now are jumbled. We will open a workshop in each place and invite performances. It is an exceptional body performance in the world, revealing the primitive energy latent in the Asian body. Scattered memory, illusion, hope and will from history and the present of the city will rise up to the surface.
Different style of two collaborative creations. “Abstract” performing action and “Narrative” performing expression. There is no linear story, though it evokes multiple interpretations and imaginations with fragments of voice, word and movement.
